What is Gyrotonic® Exercise?
The GYROTONIC® method is a unique approach to movement that, like acupuncture, can help to promote and maintain wellbeing.
The system was created by Juliu Horvath, a professional dancer from Romania who emigrated to America and had to quit dancing due to injury. Through his many years of study and a deep understanding of how to optimize the way humans like to move, he designed and built these specialized pieces of equipment. The equipment supports the body through spiraling, rhythmic exercises which are coordinated with the breath. These movements focus on both strength and flexibility, take the major joints and the spine through all their natural ranges of motion and bring tone and awareness to the core of the body.
The beauty of the GYROTONIC® method is that it is suitable for all ages and abilities, and is excellent when recovering from injury or surgery. It is practiced around the world by athletes, dancers, students, senior citizens, and anyone who desires to move in a more functional, efficient way. You will leave the studio feeling expansive, more flexible, more centered and more at home in your body.
Private sessions are generally 60 minutes long. It is best to dress in comfortable yoga or athletic gear, and wear socks or work in bare feet.
